Updated for the 2026 RSHE guidance
Following the Department for Education's publication of new RSHE guidance for England in July 2025 (statutory from September 2026), we have completed a full review of our Jigsaw PSHE 3–11 lesson content to ensure it aligns fully with the updated guidance.
Our approach
Alongside promoting our school vision and values, we use the Jigsaw Scheme of Work to cover the full PSHE curriculum from Reception to Year 6, including Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education, and Health Education. It supports children's journey from dependent to independent thinkers, who understand different relationships and their own rights and responsibilities. Lessons are organised into six themed "pieces", taught in the same half-termly sequence throughout the school:
How our lessons are structured
Teaching and Learning Principles
Every PSHE lesson follows our Springcroft Teaching and Learning Principles, including regular retrieval of prior learning.
Knowing what and why
A PSHE definition slide opens every lesson, so children always know what PSHE is and why we teach it.
Our PSHE charter
Lessons begin by referring back to our PSHE charter, setting the tone for a safe, respectful discussion.
Connect Us and Calm Me
These Jigsaw elements are used flexibly at teacher discretion, alongside the core lesson content.
Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural development
Children at Springcroft are encouraged to develop their SMSC awareness through PSHE and across all curriculum areas. Every PSHE lesson offers opportunities for this, alongside whole-school activities and events planned throughout the year to further promote it.
Parents' right of withdrawal
Two lessons within the Changing Me puzzle contain non-statutory sex education content, from which parents may request their child is withdrawn:

Babies: Conception to Birth
Information is sent to parents in the summer term, ahead of the Changing Me puzzle being taught. Parents wishing to discuss any concerns are asked to make an appointment with their child's class teacher. Parents can also request to see any PSHE resources at any time via the class teacher, with support from our PSHE Lead.
